Trent's Tracks: Through the Decades 20

Hello everyone and welcome to today’s Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades.

Over the course of five weeks (October 24th – November 27th), I will be exploring some of the finest music from each of the last five decades (yes, that’s a whole week for each decade) with a brand new song being added to the list every single day. By the end of the five weeks, there will be 35 songs on the list for you to enjoy from throughout the last 46 years.

We are now closing in on the end of 1990s week, and there are only two tracks left.

This is the third time that Michael Jackson has made an appearance on this list, with us having already had Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough, and Billie Jean in the 1970s and 1980s respectively. I spoke on both occasions about how his influence stretched across decades and how he had such a massive impact on the world of music across generations. His powerful songwriting and amazing voice made him one of the most successful artists of all time, and allowed him to produce a huge catalogue of hits over a forty-year career. In 2009, we lost this great singer too soon at the age of 50, an event which left me, and indeed the rest of the world, stunned.

Written by R Kelly, this song is an emotional showstopper which never fails to leave me amazed. It is of course You Are Not Alone, perhaps the greatest song MJ ever gave us. We miss you every day Michael.

I would love to know what you think about this or any of the other songs in this series. The comments are public and my social media links are in the colourful little table below if you want to let me know your thoughts.

The final part of 1990s week will be up tomorrow night, so keep an eye out for that. Until then, though, keep positive, keep smiling, and above all else, keep believing!
