Trent's Tracks: Through the Decades 8

Hello everyone, happy Halloween and welcome once again to Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades. Over the course of five weeks (October 24 th – November 27 th ), I will be exploring some of the finest music from each of the last five decades (yes, that’s a whole week for each decade) with a brand new song being added to the list every single day. By the end of the five weeks, there will be 35 songs on the list for you to enjoy from throughout the last 46 years. We are in the second week of this journey, which means it’s time to leave the 1970s behind and begin our trip through the crazy era of the 1980s. Because there was so much great music and so many superstars emerged from this time, it was so difficult to narrow it down to just seven songs. This part of Through the Decades took the most time to sort out, and sadly many very famous artists don’t feature on this list, such was the level of talent to choose from. Without further ado, let’s get into the music and I hope y

Hello everyone, and welcome to day 7 of Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades. Today is day 7, which means the end of both the first week and our look at the 1970s. The last song of this decade to appear on this list comes from Queen, one of the most iconic rock bands of all time, who shot to fame early on in the 70s. As a group, they have created a huge catalogue of amazing tracks, including the likes of Don’t Stop Me Now, We Will Rock You, and We Are The Champions. This song is without a doubt the finest track that Queen ever made, as well as being their biggest selling. In my view, it has one of the be

Hello everyone, and welcome to day 6 of Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades. We are now nearing the end of our look at the 1970s, with only two songs left to go before we leave this decade behind. I have stated previously that Eurovision has played a huge part in my life since I was very little, and is something I hold very dear to my heart. We sometimes forget that in amongst all of the cheesy music, colourful campness, and political voting, it is fundamentally a SINGING contest, which can showcase some absolutely incredible talent. Many winners fade into the background and are never heard from again

Hello everyone, and welcome to day 5 of Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades. We are down to the last three tracks from the 1970s now, and I promise you they are three absolute crackers! John Lennon is one of the most well-known artists ever, mainly down to the huge success he had as part of the Beatles, the biggest selling group of all time. However, after their split in 1971, he went on to have an incredibly successful career as a soloist as well. This song was recorded and released by John Lennon in the early 1970s, even though it didn’t actually reach number one in the UK until January 1981, weeks afte

Hello everyone, and welcome to today's edition of Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades. Today is day 4 of 1970s week, which means we are already halfway through our first decade! The track which I am giving you today comes from one of the bestselling disco groups of all time, and to be honest, it doesn’t get more 1970s than this song. The three brothers known as the Bee Gees had many hits over the decade including More Than A Woman, You Should Be Dancing, and Tragedy. This however, is without a doubt their most loved and recognised song. Sadly, of the original members, it is just Barry Gibb who is st

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades. Today we continue our trip through the 1970s with one of the most recognisable dance tracks of all time. This is one of those songs that everyone seems to be able to like and I guarantee that you ALL know how to dance to this. My best memory associated with it is when all of my teachers danced to it at my school prom when I was 16. One of the most bizarre, yet one of the most memorable things I have ever seen in my life. The enduring popularity of this song is clear from both the 100 million + views the video has had on YouTube, and t

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades. Today’s song comes from Grease, one of the biggest films of the 1970s. Over the years, the movie has become a classic, with one of the most recognisable soundtracks of all time. The love for this movie has crossed the generations, and I know people my own age and younger who love Grease and the songs it gave to the world. This song is the last one to feature in the film, and is part of the iconic final scene when Danny and Sandy finally get together. It is an absolute favourite, and a very recognisable tune. Here it is then, I give y

Hello everyone, and welcome along to Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades. Without further ado then, let’s begin this epic musical journey with a look into the 1970s. I find it appropriate that this artist should kick off this trip through the decades, given that his career and his influence on music would last through the next four decades. You cannot deny the astounding impact that his life and music had on millions of people around the world throughout his lifetime. His untimely death in 2009 was an event that stunned the world, and the world is absolutely a poorer place without him, and without his amazin

Trent's Tracks October 7th

Hello again, and welcome to the last Trent’s Tracks before we go through the decades in a little over two weeks' time. (See my last post to find out more about this!) American singer Pink is generally known for her hard attitude, with many of her videos and songs presenting her as a tough cookie who doesn’t take any s*** from anyone. Whether or not this is reflected in her personality, I don’t know, but it is the character we have come to know as Pink ever since her first single dropped at the turn of the millennium. For that reason, songs like this are a real surprise. As a slower, more emotional track, it showcases another side to Pink’s personality as an artist. It also demonstrates that beneath all of the tough, no nonsense music we have come to expect, there is an incredibly diverse talent that is capable of producing such powerful music as this. The first time I heard this, it stunned me with how beautiful it was. I loved this track, and its spooky video, the f

Announcement!

Hello everyone. You can probably already tell what this post is from the title, but I have an announcement for you all. Trent’s Tracks has become a huge part of this blog over the course of this year, but I still feel as though it has too much of one era and not enough of others, which doesn’t reflect my music taste, or the amount of brilliant music there is out there. So, this is why I have decided to do Trent’s Tracks: Through the Decades, a 5-week marathon of songs, with a new song added daily. Each of the five weeks will be dedicated to one of the last five decades of music, going from the 1970s all the way through to the 2010s. I am super excited about this, and there are some real classics that you’re going to hear over those five weeks, which starts here, on this page, Monday 24 th October. There are other posts coming up to entertain you in the meantime, so look out for those over the next three weeks.   You can follow me on all of my social media links which are
