The New Companion

Finally, after months of speculation, the next Doctor Who companion has been revealed. This post is going to be my thoughts on what we know already about the character from the short two-minute clip we have been given.

First of all, congratulations to Pearl Mackie on being given the role of Bill, and I am really excited to see what this new era will bring to the show and wish all the best of luck to her. Whilst I’ve already seen some people criticising her for whatever reason, I refuse to do so until I have had enough time to get to know the character. That is why at this stage I am remaining neutral on Bill, and will wait until series 10 (due to be broadcast next Spring) before I say whether or not I like the character.

So what do we know from the clip? Below I’m going to give you a list of things I spotted – if I miss anything, feel free to let me know via my social media or in the comments at the end of this post.

·         Our character is called Bill – possibly a nickname or short for something else

·         The Daleks are returning (again!)

·         She asks questions, which naturally suggests a strong-willed character

·         Humour – she makes jokes about the Daleks

·         The relationship with the Doctor – her humour is a contrast to the serious, hard-face persona of the Doctor

·         This particular scene takes place in the past – the Doctor discusses 2017 as being in the future (does this mean that we are going to have another “past affecting the future” kind of episode)

And there we have it, there isn’t a lot more to say. As I’ve said already, you can follow me on all of my social media links below to share your thoughts or comment below if you have anything to say about the new companion – I would love to know what you think.

Until next time, keep active, keep smiling, and above all else, keep believing!

  1. Hey!
Do you think it's possible that she is a companion from the past, many people are thinking 1980s, and when The Doctor references 2017 as the future it means her future?? :)

    1. Ooh, that's an interesting theory and one I hadn't thought about actually. I totally believe it's possible though, and I feel like we've had too many 21st century companions, so it would make a nice change if she were from the past.
