50 great things about the UK

Image
Hello again everyone! So, this past few days has been a whirlwind here in the UK, following the result of the EU referendum, which has caused untold turmoil both here and across Europe. Resignations, uncertainty, and a chain reaction of fallout which has caused a domino effect of massive changes. However, one of the key things I have always tried to stick to with this blog is to make sure it is true to its name, and is a place of positivity. For this reason, I have decided to write a list of 50 great things about the UK to show the world that the outcome of Thursday’s vote, regardless of the result, does not affect the fact that this country has a lot it can be proud of. Doctor Who Being a massive fan, there was no way I wasn’t going to include this! Stephen Hawking Fish & Chips Football When I say football, I mean football, as in what we British people consider to be real football. Some of you are weird and call it soccer, but it is DEFINITELY football...

Hello again all. Today’s post is different to my usual content, and will be of a subject matter I haven’t ventured into in any of my 100 or so previous posts on this page. It is not often I get political, and I try and keep politics away from this blog where my posts are supposed to remain positive, but this is a time when I feel it is important to discuss this, with such a significant event as this. On Thursday 23 rd June, the UK will make a decision as to whether it leaves the European Union, or remains a part of it. This has been advertised as the biggest decision of a lifetime, and I have to say that I don’t remember any other election or political event on this scale. This campaign has caused so much division amongst people, and at times the rhetoric from both sides has been disrespectful and full of hate. There have been moments when I have felt disgusted at my own country for the events leading up to this referendum, and the hatred it has provoked. Both left and...

Trent's Tracks June 18th

Image
Welcome everyone to the first Trent’s Tracks of the month (a bit later than planned!). This week’s track comes from one of the best bands of the last decade, who have given us so many incredible hits, including Run, Just Say Yes, and You Are All That I Have. This is without a doubt one of the most remarkable and recognisable songs of recent years, even being voted the song of the decade by the British public in 2009. One of the most shocking things I discovered about this track is that, in spite of it spending more than a year in the UK charts, it only ever got as high as number 6! Here it is, the absolutely incredible Snow Patrol, with their 2006 hit, Chasing Cars. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a superstar of a track, and rightly deserves a place on this list. Places I want to visit

Image
Hello again everyone, and welcome back to Stay Blogitive’s UK month. On Monday, I posted about some of the places I’ve been and seen around the UK. Today’s post will be very similar to that, but this time it is all about the places I want to go and see in the future. NORTHERN IRELAND So far, I’ve been to Wales, Scotland, and have lived in England, which means that the only one of the four nations of the UK that I haven’t yet visited is Northern Ireland. Like the rest of the UK, it is beautiful, but it has gained a bad reputation over the years for its political problems. To me though, I would love to visit this part of the world, with a particular desire to go to the Giant’s Causeway. THE DOCTOR WHO EXPERIENCE As a dedicated Whovian, I cannot believe that I have not been to the DW Experience in Cardiff yet. I know so many people who have gone, and have absolutely loved it. This is a trip that I am hoping will happen sometime next year if it can all be arranged proper...

Places I've Been To

Image
Hello, and welcome along to the first post in my month of UK-themed posts. (This is also my 100 th post on this page!) To kick off this series, I have decided to talk about some of the places in the UK that I have lived or visited during my life, and I want to give my thoughts on each of them. LONDON Of course, the one place I have to mention when discussing the topic of UK travel is the nation’s capital, and one of the most famous cities in the world – London. I did in fact live in London (or the Greater London area, at least) for some time as a child. Some people criticise major cities as too noisy to live in. I always laugh at this, because I lived in a rural area on the outskirts of Heathrow airport. Yes, near to one of the busiest airports in Europe. And yet, it was one of the most serene, peaceful places I have ever lived. Even though I left thirteen years ago, I would move back there at some time in the future if circumstances and finances allowed it to happen...

Managing Time in Exams

Image
Hello again everyone, and welcome back to my exams month, and the week of advice on what to do during exams themselves. Today, I am going to be giving you some advice on the best ways to manage your time in an exam. There is nothing worse than running out of time in an exam, and panicking that you’re either not going to finish, or that you won’t have enough time to write everything you need to. I am usually a slow writer, so I’ve always had a problem of not being able to write everything in the time I have. Because of this, I have developed a few different techniques which I am going to share with you right now. ·          Read all of the questions before writing anything. This gives you sufficient foresight of what is to come and can help you to plan out what time you have in relation to the number of questions you have to answer. ·          Do the questions worth the most points FIRST! Most ex...
